....A Place To Grow

Family Promise of the Mahoning Valley

Supporting the struggle against homelessness in the Mahoning Valley: ministering to the community.
In 2009 the Mahoning Valley has felt the pain of the current economic downturn as people continue to be laid off, companies close, and people find themselves unable to pay the mortgage or rent, and even putting food on the table becomes a struggle.
Girard First United Methodist Church has joined with Family Promise to provide shelter and meals to young families struggling to find work and a place to live. As a member of a group of 12 churches in the Mahoning Valley, our church will provide sleeping quarters and meals for a week, once every 3 months, to families in need. In addition, rooms in the church have been made available for Family Promise to use as a day center every week of the year.
The Churches in the Mahoning Valley affiliate of Family Promise will provide those in need with hot meals and a place to sleep and shower while they have a chance to go to school, search for jobs, go to work, and find a place to live.
Our new ministry will begin with our first families utilizing our facilities in June. Church members, along with volunteers from other churches in the area, will provide meals and a helping hand.
Volunteers from Family Promise and the church remodeled the day center area in the church to accomodate up to 14 parents and children during the day each week.
